The downsides for me are that a lot of the effects require you to do some mental calculation or to be focused and to work things out mid performance.

Negative points aside, I would definitely recommend this book, Fraser is obviously an extremely intelligent guy with great ideas and a real keen eye for the way a magician speaks and the way it can be used to create dual realities or mental forces. On paper the effects sound on par with Derren Brown but in reality they lose a bit of magic by requiring several steps.

This is absolutely fine, some people might say this heightens the free choice feeling the spectator has but I can't help but feel it takes away from the magic a bit. While it’s relatively easy to do these things, it can lead to awkward pauses while you’re thinking things through and it might be hard to be so focused in a busy environment.Īlso, a lot of the effects require spectators to think of a letter, number or card and then to change their minds, and then change again once or twice. It’s amazing what illusions you can appear to create in the audiences' mind with the power of subtle language and clever wording. The effects are awesome and really can look absolutely impossible. If you're looking to add an extra level of depth and awe to your magic (whatever kind you do - except for maybe kid shows), then you've found what you're looking for.I love the book, very well written and I like Fraser as a magician. The type of stuff found in this "system" is deep stuff that can really make your audience members feel like you've really gotten into their heads, because you have. The ebook is not the best looking thing, but it gets the job done.

No table of contents and no page numbers makes Jeff sad.Īlso included on the DVD is an ebook with further ideas. That is a bit frustrating when trying to go back and find something in the book later. That's two books in a row that I've reviewed that had no page numbers. The book and DVD are well produced, well lit, well mic'd, well written, etc. The 1914 is known for top level production qualities. However, the rest of the effects have the same impact on the participant and the rest of the audience. You certainly create that illusion for everyone else, but the spectator has a slightly different experience. The only one I would say is a little iffy is the claim that they change their belief in God. Believe it or not, every claim made is accurate. These are simple subtle direct and bold methods that create simple illusions giving you credit for much more power than these simple methods seemingly could create. It's a branch off of his concepts taken in a new direction by Fraser Parker. You're not really hypnotizing them, but you're definitely making it seem that way to everyone (including the spectator) who is watching. They aren't, necessarily, stand-alone effects, but rather they are additions to your existing routines. This concept allows you to create moments of pseudo-hypnosis at various points in your routine. Basically you're getting a handful of effects all using the same basic concept. This is another one of Kenton Knepper's students, and it shows in the type of work you're getting. Is it gem or is it rubble? Stay tuned to find out. One book, 50 pages, one DVD, 1.75 hours, one concept and $56-ish bucks.
